Why Ursinus (300 words max)

Growing up in Florida, I didn’t have a strong familiarity with colleges in the Northeast, but my uncle recommended that I look at Ursinus. After researching everything that Ursinus has to offer, I realized it fits exactly what I’m looking for in a college. The available opportunities perfectly suit both my personal and academic interests, preparing me for a successful future.

Finding a school that offers a major in East Asian studies was very important to me; not only does Ursinus have this major, but the small class size and student to faculty ratio will allow me to explore the program at an individualized level. Plus, the proximity to Philadelphia provides a variety of opportunities that will take my major as well as my outside of the classroom and into the real world. On campus, the Berman Museum of Art has a unique collection of Japanese works, combining my academic studies with my personal passion for art.

Additionally, Ursinus also offers a Japanese minor, which is perfect for me, as I started independently learning the language last year. Though Japanese fascinates me, self-studying is challenging, so I’m thrilled by the chance to finally learn in a classroom setting. Even better, Ursinus would push me outside of my comfort zone through the opportunity to study abroad in Japan. The exchange program offered at Tohoku Gakuin University will allow me to immerse myself in the culture for an entire semester, helping me grow both as a Japanese-speaker and a world citizen. I’ve wanted to go to Japan for two years now, so knowing that the school I want to attend could make that dream come true is liberating.

These are just some of the many reasons I know Ursinus is the place I want to call home for the next four years.
