HONORS COLLEGE QUESTIONS:

Explain your vision, ideas, or goals for how you hope to shape your honors experience while at Purdue. Please put this in the context of the four pillars which are the foundation of the Honors College. (300-word maximum)*

The Honors College at Purdue is a place where I will be intellectually stimulated and challenged to push my personal boundaries on what I can learn. Throughout high school, I have taken advantage of as many opportunities as I can, and I want to continue that at Purdue in order to excel in my future career. Each pillar of Purdue’s Honor College represents a pillar of excellence; the diligence, effort, and time one puts into the work they do.

Being a leader is about uniting people with different perspectives towards a common purpose by communicating with and motivating them. Throughout high school I have enjoyed sharing my knowledge to the diverse groups of people. From teaching senior citizens how to use new technology, to teaching the next generation how to make this technology, I will contribute my creativity to stimulate the education of my peers and myself. As tomorrow’s leader, I will continue to support and promote education for minority groups and work towards eradicating loneliness of senior citizens by exposing them to new technology that will connect them with the world.

Research is being conducted in every corner of the world to. Whatever solution I want to find today, might be already published tomorrow. But still, I want to research on how can we eradicate the basic necessity of human life, the hunger, clean water and air using technologies. College is a place where you get exposed to different cultures, people, research, and knowledge.

Your Evolution of Ideas course will cover a topic of which you may have no prior knowledge and will contain 25 students who vary in background, interests, and ideals. What excites you about this scenario and the interdisciplinary aspect of the course? (300-word maximum)*

The interdisciplinary aspect of the honors classes will allow me to understand new perspectives on different subjects I might not study otherwise. By learning about new topics through different lenses, my education will be significantly padded with new ideas. Being engaged in discussions with my peers who have different ideas about different subjects will enhance my ideas that I can potentially implement in my future.

When people see things from different perspectives we realize angles we have never thought about. This will enhance the social diversity and solutions for problems. Looking at all angles of the problem will allow us to open up our brains to all sides of the solution. I was raised in the US and have never seen the war and suffering of people raised in Syria. If I was with someone from Syria and shared their experiences, I could see and feel some of the pain that they feel as well to raise awareness or potentially create a solution to that. Being a resident of California I have been exposed to diversity and I can blend with other people like a chameleon. I  have learned from other people their cultures, perspectives, and thoughts, so being in a room similar to this with different perspectives will make things better.
