We would like to know more about your interest in NYU. What motivated you to apply to NYU? Why have you applied or expressed interest in a particular campus, school, college, program, and or area of study? If you have applied to more than one, please also tell us why you are interested in these additional areas of study or campuses. We want to understand - Why NYU? (400-word maximum)

From Gallatin to NYU’s global campuses, NYU has the pedagogy I need to pursue all of my interests, travel the world, and immerse myself in the rich culture of New York City. When I began my college search, I knew I wanted to study in an interdisciplinary program that provided the flexibility to pursue a combination of my three interests- business, computer science, and design. NYU offers me the liberty to do just this, both inside and outside my major.

This flexibility starts with NYU’s Gallatin, the individualized major program that will allow me to create a curriculum centered around my passions while exploring the city and the world. I want to spend my future creating and running a big tech company, a goal that no one major can prepare me for. However, Gallatin allows me to combine classes like “Creativity, Innovation, Entrepreneurship,” and “Critical Approaches to Information Visualization” to make my major fully customized to me.

Having this personalized education in the middle of New York City also presents its own opportunities. Being in such a large city, I will not only be able to interact with people from all kinds of backgrounds, but I will be able to collaborate with them through projects and internships. I would also be near public transit and close by to major companies, museums, and works of art that would act as inspiration every day.

Outside my major, I also plan to participate in entrepreneurship while pursuing my education to prepare myself for my career. NYU describes their entrepreneurship program as an ecosystem, a word that encompasses the freedom and inclusion of the program. Any student in any major can participate in entrepreneurship at NYU and work in startup spaces, participate in workshops, and join accelerators to turn ideas into reality. The entrepreneurship ecosystem also includes access to the Design Lab at NYU Tandon, where I could combine all three of my passions to learn new ways to prototype and iterate, essential parts of the product design process.

Outside my academic interests, I can enjoy NYU’s vibrant community by continuing passions that I started in high school like TEDx and dance and beginning to participate in new interests such as the Gallatin Arts Festival or the Gallatin Cookies and Coloring Club (my two favorite things). All of these things will give me a unique perspective I can incorporate into all of my passions.
