Before a big exam, one of your classmates shares copies of the exam answer key with you and several other students who are also in the same class. What do you personally do about being given the exam answer key? What do you do about the student who handed out the answer key and the other students who also have copies?

Throughout my academic career, I have been educated in schools that follow an extremely strict honor code. Both my middle school and current high school have extremely similar honor codes regarding academic integrity, and I have learned to uphold them at all times.

In this scenario, I would take action by denying the answer key and informing my teacher of this situation. I would inform my teacher that the answer key has been leaked and let them know by which student so that no further damage can be done. Regarding the other students that may have received copies, assuming I know them, I would inform my teacher of the students that have the answer keys. No student should have an unfair advantage to an exam that other students spent hours studying for.

In 200-300 words, briefly describe your volunteer and work experience. If you had to work to support yourself or your family, please explain the circumstances.

For the past three years, I have been working at [name] Academy, tutoring, and after school center. I began working as a math and biology tutor during my freshman year and have been going ever since. The summer before senior year, I designed my anatomy and physiology class to teach the students of [name] Academy. From creating the presentations, projects, and activities, I worked vigorously to make sure my students were engrossed in my lectures. Throughout my lessons, I would regularly include case studies followed by incredible discussions lead by the students and their ideas.

I fell in love with both teaching and helping kids, which made me decide to work at the center during the school year as well. Currently, I help students with their homework, hold private tutoring classes for math, and proctor SAT and ACT examinations to high school students. Being able to help struggling students is extremely rewarding and I plan on continuing to work at the tutoring center during the rest of the school year and summer. I am saving my earnings from this job for personal expenses in college. Additionally, I have been volunteering at my local Sikh Temple, a Gurdwara, for the past five years. Ever since I was a child I have been going to the Gurdwara regularly and decided that I wanted to give back to the community that has had such a large impact on me, and began volunteering every Sunday.

In 500-750 words, write an essay that explains your aspirations and what is special, unique, distinctive, and/or impressive about you or your life story. Please consider incorporating your answers to the following questions.

Growing up as a second-generation American in a household full of immigrants, I experienced my childhood in a much different light than the average American girl. Along with Punjabi, my parents taught me Urdu as well as Hindi to further expand my communication abilities when it came to speaking with extended family. Being able to read, write, and speak the language of my culture was an extreme honor to me and brought me even closer to my religious beliefs. My parents immigrated from India, not having gone to college, and came to America in hopes of starting a life for themselves. Being in a school full of students with parents of a higher education background than mine was something I felt extremely uncomfortable about all throughout my academic career because I was scared they would judge my abilities based on that. My parents worked extremely hard to make their dreams a reality which taught me to always take advantage of any opportunities that might help me in the future, and this is evident throughout my high school career.

This past year I was given the opportunity to teach a ‘term project’ at my school which is a course all high school students are required to take to advance to the next grade. My Anatomy and Physiology teacher requested that I apply for the position to lead a term project based on trauma medicine since she felt I had the academic and leadership abilities to do so. Throughout this week I taught a group of thirty-eight of my peers how to perform six sutures, become CPR certified, intubate, and draw blood. Through this experience, I was able to share my passions in the field of medicine with my peers while enjoying my time as a classroom leader.

My parents have always instilled in me how important it is to make use of my time, thus I attended summer programs like the [name] Biomedical Research and [name] Medicine at the [name] along with working at [name] Academy and interning at a dental office throughout my summers. One aspect that makes me stand out from other applicants is my leadership abilities. At my newly established high school, I created an entire varsity cheerleading team in a year in 2016. The “Spirit Squad” is responsible for organizing school events, attending all the games and rallies and always being an example of what a (school) student represents. Because of the creation of the spirit squad, our peers finally get a high school experience filled with school spirit and a sense of community, something I longed for in my first year at the school. Creating the spirit squad is my proudest achievement at (school) since it has completely changed the dynamics of this school, and I am extremely honored to be a part of the foundation of something so great.
