As businesses are constantly re-innovating themselves to adapt to the rapidly changing markets, it has become clear that their future lies in the valuable commodity of data. As industries are starting to leverage data to address problems, data analytics is an essential tool in their arsenal allowing them to focus on growth and improvement opportunities. I am confident that Chapman University will enable me achieve my goals of one day helping companies drive their strategies for success. Eventually, I want to be able to take my skills in statistical science to a struggling sports club to help them improve their performance.

There are thousands of universities and colleges. Please share with us why you are interested in attending Chapman. (200 words or fewer)

Since the beginning of high school, I have wanted to become a data scientist. Sadly, only a few universities in the country had majors that somewhat catered towards my specific interests and none of them fit what I was specifically looking for in a school. Then one morning my counselor told me that a small private school near LA had recently begun offering a major that perfectly aligned with what I wanted to study. I learned that Chapman was not only one of the best schools in the country that taught data sciences, but also offered an experience that could not be replicated at any other institution. Chapman has developed a unique program that teaches the basics of Data Analytics incorporated with courses from other disciplines like Business and Engineering in order to give the full spectrum of the subject. Upon further research I loved everything from the opportunities for community service to connections with companies like Toyota and Dreamworks for student internships. I recognized the clear balance between a great social atmosphere and rigorous academics that many schools can’t put forth. Chapman changed from a school I had never heard of to becoming my dream school.

The ‘I Am Chapman’ campaign on our campus was created to foster an appreciation and awareness of diversity, inclusion, equity and social justice for all. We celebrate our students’ individuality in all of its forms including their personal experiences, culture, religious beliefs, opinions, ancestry, race, ethnicity, interests, ability, geographic backgrounds and family traditions. Given the diverse experiences and perspectives of our community members, the admission committee would like to know what makes you ‘Chapman?' (200 words or fewer)

As a first generation American Indian, I’ve spent my life trying to balance an American lifestyle with Hindu traditions to fit in with the people around me. But regardless of how well I spoke English or how “American” I was, many people still viewed me as a foreigner. I learned that society pushed back against things they didn’t understand, especially cultures that seem alien to their own. I was always different in more than one way, such as having different lunches from my peers and having Indian holidays that didn’t match traditional American holidays. This led to students ridiculing me because of our differences but Instead of pushing back, I chose to help others understand the diversity within me. My parents always preached the acceptance of everyone regardless of their faith so whenever an opportunity presents itself, I try to help people learn about my Hindu customs because it encourages them to create a more positive outlook on cultures different from theirs. Its allowed me build a closer connection to my heritage as I spend time investigating my background. I believe my values of unity is a unique part of who I am and what makes me Chapman.
