We would like to get a better sense of you. Please respond to the following prompt. (400 words)

Human beings have a creative side that tends to shine most when we are truly invested in the world around us. Describe a situation when you responded effectively to a particular need and found yourself at your creative best.

While I’ve qualified as one of the top 8 long jumpers in my league for the past 3 seasons, my individual accomplishments are certainly not my greatest contribution to my high school track team. Through both mentorship and education, I have been able to work with numerous athletes to help them achieve their own personal goals. As a leader, I am most proud of my ability to use my knowledge within unconventional situations.

After arriving at the first day of track practice last year, I was devastated to hear that the long jump coach had suddenly resigned and would not be replaced. Both confused and frustrated by this new information, I drove home racking my brain for a solution. Suddenly, I realized that in order for anyone on the team to improve this coming season, the athletes with more experience would have to coach the newest members of the team. Throughout the next week, I spent countless hours watching videos and reading articles created by long jumping experts. Armed with the information I gained through years of experience and my recent research, I was able to create a comprehensive workout program for our team.  During each practice, I would stand by the long jump pit and lead a variety of drills tailored to improve the skills of my teammates. By the end of the season, I could be seen sitting by that same pit, with a massive grin on my face, as I watched many of my friends jump multiple feet farther than they had previously.

While some may think that creativity is only shown through artwork, I see creativity as the use of imagination and original ideas within any situation. My own imagination was utilized when I had to step up and coach athletes both younger and older than myself.  And my original ideas came in the form of a unique training regimen. By the end of the season, going to my third straight WCAL finals wasn’t what made me feel most accomplished. It was seeing the athletes I had helped to nurture and develop that made me feel like a true champion.
