Describe your academic interests and how you plan to pursue them at USC. Please feel free to address your first- and second-choice major selections (250 word limit).

I would be thrilled to pursue a degree in clinical psychology at USC.  Dornsife's creative, interactive atmosphere encompasses a variety of fascinating courses that would allow me to investigate the world of psychotherapy while also discovering new academic disciplines.

One of USC’s psychology seminars, entitled “Children’s Learning and Cognitive Development,” thoroughly intrigues me; Professor Frank Manis’s course would allow for me to develop my interests in cognition through actively tutoring children in literature.  As an avid reader with a passion for discovering new authors, the nineteen on-campus libraries appear as sanctuaries to this fascination.

While I am captivated by adolescent psychology, the Davis School of Gerontology would be a phenomenal place for me to expand my academic interests.  As the aging population of my community has always fascinated me, I would love to analyze the sociological and psychological aspects of gerontology through individualized research.

I also hope to become involved with classes that further my musicality and creativity.  As a filmmaker and director throughout my high school career, USC's "Theatrical Film Symposium" class would provide me with incredible opportunities analyze the newest characters in Hollywood in a unique academic environment.  Although I do not wish to major in music, the university’s innovative electives, such as “Music and the Holocaust,” would allow for me to pursue my musical interests while studying the psychological repercussions of societal circumstances.

I would be honored to take part in USC’s intellectually stimulating courses that examine the inventive and ever-changing world of psychology.
