I have always been interested in learning about other countries given that every day, a new major world event occurs.

Naturally,  I am interested in studying abroad while pursuing my major in biology. This would not only provide me a chance to learn about other people’s perspectives on global politics but also allow me to experience new cultures by actively engaging with the people I meet.

I got a small taste of the situation outside of the U.S.  when I studied Global Leadership at Washington University in St.Louis.There I spent time talking to international students from Turkey and China about the daily situation in their nations. Becoming friends with a classmate from Turkey led me to realize the great difference between living in the U.S. and in other countries. My friend living in Istanbul experienced a failed coup when he returned home. And although he was uninjured, this event exposed me to the different circumstances foreign citizens live under. At Tufts, I will experience the same type of exposure and learn firsthand about what is going on in foreign countries.

Global events is a topic that is important to many students outside of the international relations major. I believe that everyone should be aware of the world outside of their daily life. Although my area of study is in biology, I still hope to learn how countries interact at Tufts University.
