How did you first learn about Rice University and what motivated you to apply? (250 word limit)
I learned about Rice University through my friend, who is starting as a freshman at Rice this year. I am applying to Rice University because of its comprehensive academics and engaging student life.
Professor Ron Goldman’s work on the algorithms behind computer graphics software is quite fascinating to me, and I hope to aid him with his research. I have used computer graphics software such as Autodesk Inventor and Autodesk Maya, and I would be very interested in learning more about the inner workings of similar programs. I am also looking forward to taking courses such as Comp 160 - Introduction to Computer Game Creation and Comp 360 - Computer Graphics to further my interest in video game programming.
I am sure that I will enjoy the student life at Rice. I am really looking forward to the campus-wide water balloon fights, and the Beer Bike competition seems interesting. I have heard that people at Rice University are always ready to help each other out, and that students have access to a network of advisors and senior students that are willing to help with any questions. Rice seems to be a university filled with amazingly diverse people that I would love to meet.
I want to have the best possible education I can in a comfortable student environment and it is my dream to revolutionize the video game industry with games that can help people. I know I can accomplish my goals at Rice.
