Please elaborate on one of your extracurriculars.
My ears followed the beat of the rhythm as my feet tapped the floor unconsciously. Early on, I had developed an affinity towards dance, almost innately. Eventually, I realized I wanted to channel my interests into an Indian classical dance, Bharatanatyam.
Over the past 10 years, I have been practicing and refining this very art form. What seemed to be effortless by other dancers, was initially very demanding for me. With repetitive practice sessions and determined efforts, I attained my professionalism in my solo debut in 2010.
As a professional, I was free to experiment with different opportunities. I began participating in local dance competitions, such as the San Francisco Ethnic Dance Festival. This eventually lead me to perform at a bigger scale as a I traveled to places like Barcelona and India to experience different atmospheres and arenas.
Having performed internationally, I wanted to further utilize the skill I had. I have raised funds through my own dance recitals to support nonprofit organizations for special needs children and soup kitchens. I also devoted more time in my dance school, by mentoring beginner dancers and motivating them to achieve the perfection and finesse that every Bharatanatyam dancer needs.
Dance is something that I continue to pursue as a passion. I am proud to have developed a skill that is deeply rooted within my culture. By mentoring and helping others with my skill, I am also grateful for the person I have become as a result of my love for dance.
