Because my biology classes never included lessons on the brain, I joined my high school’s neuroscience club. There, my interest in the brain evolved from simple curiosity to amazement at how complex this small organ is. As I write this very sentence, my occipital lobe is receiving information from my eyes, which are moved by the oculomotor, trochlear, and abducent nerves. This information is then relayed to my frontal lobe, which plans out my sentences--and this is only a superficial description of what is happening.

Though I am proud of all I have learned so far, there is still much for me to discover. I want to continue studying the brain, feeding my curiosity, and developing my knowledge. Boston University can help me do so. With classes such as Intro to Cognitive Neuroscience, which will provide me with foundations in memory, attention, perception, and language; Memory Systems of the Brain, which discusses the neurobiological mechanisms of memory; and Drugs and Behavior, which focuses on drug influences on behavior, my interest in neuroscience will continue evolving, and my knowledge will keep improving.

Hopefully, BU will be my next step, but I know it will not be my last. Eventually, I want to use the knowledge I gain at BU to pursue my interest in neuroscience in medical school. My dream is to continue research to help further our understanding of a variety of neurological disorders, ranging from ALS to aphasia.
