While both schools offer summer dance programs, their undergraduate and graduate programs appear to offer different majors. The most notable difference is that Steinhardt does not offer dance as a major only dance education.  This may indicate that their summer programs will have a different focus or approach, although looking at their program descriptions both appear to focus on dance and technique.

I’ve also looked at blogs that explain the difference between the two, however the discussion is on the difference in musical production rather than dance. From the blogs Steinhardt music program is more music based with acting and dance and Tisch is more dance/acting based with music.

Tisch Dance Department

At the Tisch Department of Dance, we seek to develop and prepare fully realized dance artists to be critical thinkers, fearless leaders, and fluent performers.

Our bachelor’s (BFA) and master’s (MFA) programs emphasize the techniques of ballet and contemporary dance, with equal emphasis on performance and choreography.

Summer dance program

In addition to rigorous technical practice, students create new dance compositions and learn existing repertory from established New York City-based dance artists. We also provide opportunities to explore newer areas of dance research including improvisational techniques, kinesiology and dance science, and the role of new media in dance creation. Students share their own compositions with faculty in weekly showings; the program culminates in a final studio showing for faculty, family and friends.

Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development

Our place in the Department of Music and Performing Arts Professions  is of great advantage. Our department houses 400 adjunct and full-time faculty servicing 1,600 students majoring in arts administration, dance education, educational theatre, music business, music composition, music education, music performance, music technology, music theatre, and performing arts therapy. [Note that dance is not offered, only dance education.]
