Major in Music - Interdisciplinary Computing and the Arts (B.A.)
Interdisciplinary Computing and the Arts (B.A.)** - The ICAM Program in the Music and Visual Arts departments draws upon, and aims to bring together, ideas and paradigms from computer science, art and cultural theory. The departments take for granted that the computer has become a meta-medium and that artists and musicians working with computers are expected to combine different media forms in their works. This makes the program unique among other existing computer art or design programs.
The program also recognizes that creating sophisticated artistic works with computers requires a new model of the creative process, one that combines traditional artistic procedures with the experimental research characteristic of the sciences. (http://musicweb.ucsd.edu/ugrad/ugrad-pages.php?i=103)

Major in Computer Science
Undergraduate
The Department of Computer Science (CS) offers B.A., B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. degrees. Areas of research include analysis of algorithms, artificial intelligence, pattern recognition and retrieval, machine learning, neural networks, computer graphics, computer animation, scientific visualization, computer and sensor vision, image processing, image synthesis, multimodal human-computer interaction, programming languages and environments, software engineering, Web and Internet engineering, real-time embedded systems, computer security, databases, parallel and distributed computation, operating systems, and storage systems.
The bachelor of arts program at UCSC is designed to give students a solid grounding in both theoretical and practical topics in computer science, computer engineering, and mathematics, while leaving flexibility for a broad program of study including many courses outside of the sciences, or even for a double major in another discipline. The bachelor of science program is appropriate for students desiring a somewhat stronger concentration in the sciences, with more courses in computer science and computer engineering as well as courses in physics or chemistry; this program also allows for electives outside of the sciences. Because many courses in both programs have prerequisites, students leaning toward either program will enjoy greater scheduling flexibility if they begin some preparatory courses in their first year. The specific course requirements for each undergraduate degree are given below.

The UCSC music curriculum is distinctive in developing musicians who integrate scholarship with performance. Although this rigorous program primarily addresses Western art music, it also incorporates the study of world music cultures in both their art and vernacular traditions. A major in music establishes a substantial foundation for further academic or performance studies. Two undergraduate majors are offered: the bachelor of music (B.M.), which especially develops the student’s attainment in performance, and the bachelor of arts (B.A.), which cultivates greater breadth in the student’s academic achievement. Two minors in music are also offered: one in electronic music, and one in jazz. The electronic music and jazz minors are open to music majors, as well as to students pursuing other majors. Major in Computer Science
For the Degree of Bachelor of Science in Computer Science
The computer science curriculum provides both a broad and deep knowledge of the theory, design, and application of computer systems, with an emphasis on software systems. Because computing is ubiquitous, application areas involve virtually any field imaginable - from developing gene sequencing algorithms via techniques in computational biology, to designing user interfaces for mobile applications; from designing methods for high frequency trading, to creating computer generated graphics and special effects in the gaming industry; and from creating embedded real time systems to be deployed in medical devices, to analyzing social data from internet communication patterns. During the first two years the curriculum provides a strong foundation in mathematics, science, and computation. Advanced coursework in areas of the student's choosing follows in the second two years, which include either a senior thesis or a senior project. Graduates may go on to graduate study or leading positions in industry.

BS in Computer Science—Accelerated Degree Completion Program
The two-year Accelerated Degree Completion Program (ADCP) provides a fast-track to a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Computer Science from Boston University.
The ADCP is uniquely designed to match the energy and talents of professionals who have risen in the business environment without having completed their bachelor’s degree, offering a cohesive, traditional college experience for motivated adults. Students enter the program as part of a cohort, and graduate together as a class—meanwhile benefiting from strong personal and professional connections, career networking opportunities, and the University’s recreational resources.
The program’s concentrated, structured course of study makes it possible to complete a BU undergraduate degree in just two years—four semesters and two summers. To meet the needs of busy adults and reduce commuting time, this campus-based program includes a combination of traditional classroom, blended, and online course formats.
Additionally, students who achieve a grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher in the program are guaranteed admission—with advanced standing—to a MET graduate degree program in computer science.
The BS in Computer Science program develops valuable experience and professional skills in areas such as object-oriented programming and Java, and many graduates go on to rewarding computer-related careers in software engineering, system administration and management, and research and development in industrial and governmental laboratories. Others use their undergraduate computer science degree background (and analytical skills) to prepare for careers in medicine, law, education, physical and life sciences, social sciences, and the humanities.
Applicants are selected based on their academic background and professional expertise. They are expected to have completed a minimum of 64 transferable academic semester credits, including:
the equivalent of a freshman-level English writing course
at least one course in computer programming
college-level mathematics at least through pre-calculus
A completed application, official high school and college transcripts, and a current résumé are necessary for admission. (https://www.bu.edu/academics/met/programs/computer-science/bs-accelerated/)
